Perennial Sphere is the third in a series of paintings in which I used a more realistic background as a starting point. I then added some biologically inspired forms such as the iridescent, radiolarian based structures and coral inspired components. The photo was taken in 2012 from Grizzly Peak near Ashland, OR. It is the site of an early 2000’s forest fire. In the original photograph there stood a few burnt tree trunks (which I replaced with the iridescent forms). After hiking up there recently, once the painting was finished, I noticed they had fallen. On that same hike we saw iridescence in the clouds and coral mushrooms on the ground, like seeing elements of the painting in person scattered in nature.
As a whole, the title suggests the perennial or enduring nature of the Earth itself, including the cycles of life and renewal processes, as seen after a forest fire like the one this landscape has experienced. Custom sizes on paper or canvas may be available. Feel free to contact me.
The original painting was completed in October of 2019 and is sold.
